Attract Mode: Insert A Static Graphic

When not in use, the exhibit can simply display a static graphic. When a visitor turns the dial, the graphic vanishes and the user is in interactive exploration mode, starting at any specified point in the main content (typically the start of the content).

The following steps assume you are inserting an opaque image. Images with transparency are supported but just a bit more involved to produce. Please contact us for details.

1. Create the Graphic

Create the graphic and save it as a 24-bit BMP. Generally designers create images that span the entire display. On the exhibit computer, save the BMP file to TechnoFrolics\ACL\Bitmaps\Designer\Overlays. (Just for tracking purposes, you may want to create and save the file to a subfolder specific to your exhibit.)

2. Create A Simple Script to Specify a Start Point in the Content

This script positions the content at a specified timecode when the visitor starts to turn the dial.

In Windows, on the exhibit computer, under TechnoFrolics\ACL\AttractMode, create a text file, with the suffix "script", for example "Attract.script".

Copy and paste the following into the file. (This assumes you want the visitor's starting point to be the beginning of content. You can adjust the timecode to start elsewhere as needed.)

; Go to start of content.
